The Re-birth of the Backline Band
The back line band was first formed in 2001 to support the career of budding starlet Paul Bell after his rise to fame on the BBC TV show "Star For A Night".
As they say everyone gets 15 minutes of fame and sadly that's about all Paul Bell and the Back Line Band got.
2 years spent trudging round the clubs and pubs of middle England saw Paul Bell and the Back Line Band go into melt down, the band split and Paul vowed never to sing again.
A chance meeting some years later was all it took to spark a revival. Most of the band were involved in other projects so after a few phone calls to musicians that had been picked up along the way the new Backline Band were on the road. Paul's experience and talent for musical arrangement made him the natural leader.
The band now consists of : Steve Preston on guitars & Bv's, Glyn Bevins on bass & Bv's, George Stokes on keys, Todd Knapp on drums, Richard Bartlett on tenor sax, Les Philpot (the only other original band member) on tenor sax, Sammi Vaughan on vocals and Paul Bell on vocals.
The Backline Band has been reborn and its all thanks to Paul's wife Rayna, if she hadn't phoned Les Philpot and said " make him sing again he's driving me mad" and then arranged a "chance" meeting, none of this would have happened.
Having strong male and female lead vocals has opened up new areas for the band to explore. The Backline Band now offer a more varied set list covering songs from the 60's to the present day.
The band has moved away from the heavy soul influences and ventured into disco, rock, reggae, country and some 80's 90's & 00's classics, although the old soul songs still go down well and are slipped in every now and then just for old times sake.
The Backline Band also offers customers a "tell us the song and we'll learn it in a month" service for special occasions.
So if you're looking for a band to get the party started . . . . . . . Stop, you've just found them!
